August 13, 2014 - the day our lives turned upside down.
My father was a simple man - work, family, and of course beer. He often enjoyed attending rock concerts and watching Pittsburgh sports. He had 5 children, 3 step-children, and 2 grandsons - a number of ex-wives and a current one. He struggled financially for many years trying to keep his children fed with roofs over their little heads. If I could find the words to describe him in full, I would. Unfortunately, the best word I can think of is stubborn (and that doesn't even do him justice).
My father died by suicide.
The ultimate cause of his decision will never be certain, but his note left enough for our family to make an educated guess. Needless to say, my family has not recovered from my father's death. Grieving a loss by suicide is much different than any other death. We are here to do our best in preventing suicide, as well as offering support to survivors of suicide.
